Understated luxury—a perfect symbiosis of mud and a touch of glam.
I was commissioned to design the interiors of this eco-home in Penestanan, Bali. The three-bedroom house, with its beautiful cob walls and recycled timber, was still under construction when I joined the project—leaving plenty of space to shape the interiors, guide key decisions, and bring in the holistic design approach I find essential: ensuring architecture and interiors work in harmony.
My client, a feng shui specialist, added another layer of depth to the process. Each decision had to respect the flow of energy and the balance of the five elements. Materials and colors were carefully placed in specific areas to enhance their positive qualities—resulting in a home that feels deeply calm and peaceful.
I especially enjoyed creating built-in elements such as wall niches and sofas, as well as designing the bathrooms, kitchen, and the many corners to lounge in. The interiors play with contrast: rough, natural surfaces meeting sleek metal details, giving the home its subtle yet striking character.
This project sits within the eco-community of Mud Eco Homes, whose thoughtful architecture and sustainable vision provided a wonderful canvas for me to develop interiors that reflect both simplicity and quiet sophistication.
